Wichita & Kansas City KS Planning

This page is a planning aid for two Kansas hubs: Wichita (south-central) and Kansas City, Kansas / Wyandotte County (northeast). We do not invent hole counts, course ratings, fees, or rankings. Start with official park pages and the PDGA Course Directory, then confirm hours, layouts, fees, and closures on site.

These cities are not a casual same-day duplex. Rough drive time between downtown Wichita and downtown Kansas City, Kansas is typically on the order of about 3 hours on I-35 / the Kansas Turnpike (tolls apply on turnpike segments)—plan each metro as its own trip (or as overnight bookends), not as a morning/afternoon swap.

Official starting points

Resource Use it for
PDGA Course Directory Search/filter Kansas (and city name); verify attributes against park signs
City of Wichita — Disc Golf City-listed courses; free-play note
City of Wichita — Park & Recreation news archive (Evergreen install) City addresses for the six managed courses; Evergreen as nine-hole
Unified Government of Wyandotte County / KCK — City Park course opening Official 18-hole City Park amenity (free recreational play per UG wording)
UG Parks & Recreation — About County parks snapshot (includes disc golf course count)
Air Capital Disc Golf Club — Courses Wichita-area club companion—cross-check with city pages
Kansas City Disc Golf — Courses KCK / metro club companion—cross-check with UG / PDGA
UDisc Navigation aid—verify against tee signs

Wichita (city parks list)

Per Wichita Park & Recreation — Disc Golf, the city lists public courses that are open to the public and free to play. Players bring their own equipment. The city’s August 12, 2021 news release names the six Park & Recreation–managed courses with addresses:

Park / course (city label) Address (per city news) City hole note
Cessna West 5701 E. Kinkaid TBD against city maps / PDGA / tee signs
Clapp Park 4611 E. Harry TBD against city maps / PDGA / tee signs (complex may carry more than one layout)
Herman Hill 101 E. Pawnee TBD against city maps / PDGA / tee signs
Oak Park 1355 N. Park Dr TBD against city maps / PDGA / tee signs
West Millbrook 119th St West & Taft TBD against city maps / PDGA / tee signs
Evergreen 2700 N Woodland Nine-hole (city news wording)

Hole counts above come only from city wording where the city stated them. For current layouts, dual tees, and pin moves, use any course-map PDFs linked from city facility pages, the PDGA Course Directory, and on-site signs—not blogs.

Air Capital Disc Golf Club publishes companion notes for Wichita-area courses (and some nearby towns). Still verify hours, parking, and open/closed status against Wichita.gov or the managing agency before you drive.

Metro tip: PDGA and club pages may list additional Wichita-area courses (neighboring cities, schools, private layouts) that are not on the City of Wichita disc golf list. Treat those as TBD until you confirm the managing agency, hours, parking, and fees on an official page.

Kansas City, Kansas / Wyandotte County

Per the Unified Government news release (May 30, 2023), UG opened a new 18-hole disc golf course at City Park, funded by Community Development Block Grants, described as free recreational fun for Wyandotte residents and City Park guests. Confirm current hours, parking, and pavilion/event conflicts on UG Parks pages or on site before you go.

The UG Parks & Recreation “About” page states the system includes 3 disc golf courses countywide. That page does not name all three in the snapshot we cite—so treat any course beyond the City Park announcement as TBD until you confirm it on PDGA, a named UG park page, or tee signs.

Course (official / PDGA label) How we know it Hole note
City Park (Kansas City, KS) UG opening announcement 18 holes; free play per UG wording
Wyandotte County Park (Bonner Springs / Riverview area) PDGA course page 18 holes (PDGA); pay-to-play listed as no on PDGA—still read any sign on arrival

Kansas City Disc Golf maintains club companion pages for City Park, Wyandotte County (WYCO), and other metro layouts (some of which sit in Missouri or other Kansas counties). Use the club for maps and league notes; still verify managing agency, hours, and fees against UG / PDGA / tee signs—especially when a listing is not one of the three UG disc golf courses.

Border tip: “Kansas City” spans two states. This page is scoped to Kansas City, Kansas / Wyandotte County. Missouri-side courses (for example on club metro lists) need their own parks-department confirmation—do not assume UG rules apply across the state line.

Sample trip shapes (pick one, keep it light)

These are route ideas, not ranked recommendations:

  1. Wichita deep dive — Two or three city-list courses in one day (Evergreen’s city-noted 9-hole is a natural short add-on).
  2. KCK / Wyandotte day — City Park (UG: 18-hole) plus Wyandotte County Park (PDGA: 18-hole) if time and weather allow.
  3. Overnight corridor — One full day in Wichita, overnight on I-35 / the Turnpike, one full day in KCK (or reverse). Do not try to stack both metros in a single daylight window.
  4. Weather plan — Stay in one metro if wind, storms, or winter road/toll reports look ugly; prairie wind is real on open Kansas holes.

Before you leave:

  1. Open PDGA filtered to Kansas, then narrow by city (Wichita; Kansas City; Bonner Springs).
  2. Open the matching city / UG parks page for hours, parking, and rules.
  3. Check for events, temporary layouts, or closures via club pages or park notices.
  4. Budget Turnpike tolls if you use that corridor; pack water and layers.
  5. On arrival, use course map literacy and etiquette & safety.

What to verify on site

No fabricated stats. If a blog claims a rating, length, or “best course in Kansas,” verify on PDGA, the city / UG parks page, or tee signs—or leave the number out. We prefer links over invented figures. Broader Midwest context: Midwest Disc Golf Courses Starter. Neighboring Nebraska day-trip sibling: Omaha & Lincoln Course Planning.
