In the Bag: find the gaps in your discs
Add the discs you carry and we'll tell you what's missing: speed gaps, stability gaps, shot shapes you can't throw yet, and discs that do the same job twice. Then we'll suggest what kind of disc fills each hole.
Flight numbers are the manufacturer's stamp, not a measured throw. Gap rules are rules of thumb for a right-hand backhand thrower, and everything here is a suggestion, not a verdict. Disc data by Try Discs; mold list from the PDGA approved discs CSV.

Distance in feet runs up the side, fade and turn run left to right (RHBH). Distances are estimates from the flight numbers for an average arm, the same model as the flight chart.
How the gap rules work
- Speed classes: putter (speed 1-3), midrange (4-5), fairway driver (6-8), distance driver (9+). Missing putter or midrange is a big gap; missing fairway is worth fixing; no speed 9+ is a nice-to-have for new players and worth fixing once you carry 6+ discs.
- Speed ladder: a jump of 4 or more speed points between neighbours (say 5 to 9) flags a hole in the middle.
- Stability per class: turn + fade of -1 or lower is understable, 2 or higher is overstable, in between is stable. For every class you carry, we look for at least one overstable and one understable option.
- Shot shapes: overstable fade (speed 5+, fade 3+), straight flyer (speed 4+, turn + fade within ±1, fade 2 or less), hyzer flip (speed 6+, turn -1 or lower, fade 1+), turnover/anhyzer (speed 5+, turn -2 or lower), roller (speed 6+, turn -2 or lower, fade 0-1).
- Overlaps: two discs in the same class with the same speed (within half a point) and turn and fade each within 1 of each other. A backup copy of one mold is called out as a backup, not a problem.
- Suggestions: example molds come straight from our catalog, closest match to the target numbers, one per brand, no affiliate links. More in the how-to guide.
