Putting Basics
Putting wins casual and competitive rounds. Fancy form tips that contradict your balance are not “secrets”—they’re noise.
Foundations
- Comfortable stance — Feet stable; many players use straddle or staggered stances. Pick one you can repeat.
- Same grip every time — Fan, push, or spin styles all work; consistency beats fashion.
- Eyes on the chain band / target — Soft focus on where you want the disc to hit.
- Follow through toward the target — Don’t decelerate early to “steer.”
- Routine — Same breath and number of practice pumps. Routines reduce panic inside the circle.
Practice that stays honest
| Habit | Why |
|---|---|
| Make-or-miss from known distances | Builds calibration |
| Mix short and medium putts | Don’t only practice tap-ins |
| Practice with your gameday putter | Soft vs firm plastics feel different |
| Stop when form falls apart | Fatigue teaches bad misses |
We will not claim a proprietary “tour percentage system” or invent tour player make-rates.
On the course
- Mark your lie; follow group pace.
- Avoid stepping across others’ lines.
- After a miss, re-mark and finish—don’t sulk in the walk-up.
